"You carry the nature inside you. It is a mirror within of the natural beauty in the world. This retreat is an invitation to bring those inner and outer natures together."
Join us for a 7-day retreat where we invite you to land in yourself and your body through yoga, meditation and relaxation. Here you can treat yourself to a time-out, experience that close contact with the powerful Lofoten nature brings you closer to yourself and others - and feel that flow, balance and joy of life are enhanced.
We gather for guided mindful nature walks, and you can join us in a sound healing bath with large crystal bowls - a wonderful, relaxing experience. We gather around the campfire for a full moon ceremony - with meditation, storytelling and fellowship. We walk in silence to the powder white beaches, and - if you wish - we enjoy a refreshing winter bath.
It is difficult to put into words the feeling one gets from nature connection. An essential part of the experience is as a "quiet language". In nature one hears the silence in a different way than in a quiet room. It is not the absence of sound in nature - but buzzing from leaves, grass, stones, waves and wind that follows a rhythm that the body also recognizes. Harmony is created. The silent language arises as we open our senses and dare to listen behind what we have developed words and logic for.
We will do our best to facilitate an experience where the outer frames enhance your inner journey.
“Every moment happens twice: inside and outside, and they are two different histories.”
-Zadie Smith, White Teeth

About the organizers and retreat leaders
The retreat is organized by Inner & Outer Journeys ( www.ioj.no ) offering retreats in Skrova and Lofoten, and Min Yoga Lofoten ( www.yogalofoten.no) a yoga center in Svolvær. Booking is done directly to Min Yoga. Together we build up Lofoten as a retreat destination.
Anniken leads the retreat and will hold yoga classes and guide the nature connection.
She is a yoga teacher from PadmaKarma Yoga School in Kerala, India, and trained in classical hatha yoga in the Sivananda tradition. She is a sociologist and has four years of education in energy psychology. She has also practiced forest bathing in the shinrin yoku tradition. Anniken will be you hostess during your stay. She teaches in MinYoga Svolvær.
Liv will hold the full moon ceremony and the sound bath for us. She is a trained singer, cranio-sacral therapist and yoga teacher, and currently resides in Vesterålen. She has many years’ experience of holding ceremonies and has studied under several shamans both at home and abroad and has also participated in a one-year training in keeping sweat lodges. She has led full moon gatherings since 2012, and she regularly holds sound baths in her studio at Maurnes in Vesterålen.
About the yoga
Anniken Enger teaches classical hatha yoga, which suits all levels. The focus is on presence through the body and increased sensibility, and I want to make it possible for you as a participant to have the opportunity to just BE, to open all your senses so that the experience of the magnificent nature becomes an inner and outer journey.
A typical class starts with pranayama (breathing exercises) to calm the mind, then a series of sun salutations to warm all parts of the body. Then we go through the 12 basic yoga asanas (postures) that include moving the spine in all directions. All classes end with a guided relaxation.
The class will be perceived as relatively calm. We breathe and melt into the positions - and hold them for a relatively long time - so that the body can adjust and adapt. You will experience increased flexibility, strength and body contact and feel calmer and more present after class
The yoga hall
Our yoga room is in the Skrova community hall, a gymnasium with fantastic views towards the harbor of Skrova. The room has soft flooring, good ventilation system and very good sound system. Here there are wardrobes with showers and toilets.
You can borrow yoga mats from us, but please bring your own blanket and any props you need (ribbons, pillows etc.)
Skrova is a beautiful island located 30 minutes’ ferry ride from Svolvær - the capital of Lofoten. The islands highest top at 281 meters above sea level, boasts a wonderful view of white sandy beaches, turquoise seas and the Lofoten Wall. Someone said, "You haven't seen Lofoten until you've been to Skrova". Skrova is one of the few living fishing villages in Norway, and 185 people live here throughout the year. Most of the people living on the island work at the fish factory, and the island has a school, grocery store, two restaurants, photo gallery, SOPS - an outdoor photo exhibition, island bikes that the school students have decorated and not least an active marching band. Skrova probably has the largest marching band in the world - measured in proportion of its inhabitants.
Nature is easily accessible, and it is a short distance from the compact settlement to large natural areas where you can find places to sit by yourself. If you wish. Swimming from one of the beautiful beaches is highly recommended.
Accommodation and food
Please let us know if you need accommodation. There are many cozy accommodation opportunities in Skrova. Participants arrange food themselves. Purchases can be made at the local grocery store.
